Frequently Asked Questions
-
In many cases, yes. Existing timber gates can often be automated, provided the gates, hinges and posts are in good condition and suitable for automation.
We will assess factors such as the size and weight of the gates, how freely they swing, the condition of the posts and hinges, and the available space for the gate motors. If any changes are required before automation can be installed, we can discuss these with you.
-
Not necessarily. Gate automation can be powered by 240V mains, low voltage or solar, depending on your property.
If 240V isn't available at the entrance, we can often run low-voltage power from a house, shed or other suitable power source. We have installed low-voltage systems over distances of up to 200 metres, making this a great option when solar isn't suitable.
We'll assess your property and recommend the most reliable power option for your gate.
-
Automatic gate systems can be manually released so the gates can be operated by hand if required during a power failure.
We will show you how to manually release and operate your gates as part of the installation.
-
It depends on your property and how the gate will be used.
Mains power is preferred when readily available, while low voltage is a great option when the nearest power source is some distance from the entrance.
Solar can work well when site conditions are suitable, but is best paired with wireless or low-power accessories. Accessories requiring continuous power day and night can drain the battery and may make solar unsuitable.
We'll recommend the best option based on your location, gate usage and accessories.
-
Yes. We can automate both single and double swing gates.
The best configuration depends on the width of your entrance, gate design, available space and the way you would like the entrance to operate.
For double gates, the automation system controls both gate leaves so they open and close together in the correct sequence.
-
Remote range varies depending on the automation system and the conditions around your property.
Buildings, terrain, interference and other obstacles can affect the operating range, so we don't recommend relying on a specific distance until the site and system have been considered.
If you need to operate your gates from further away, other access options such as GSM remote access may be more suitable.
-
Yes. We offer options that allow your automatic gates to be operated remotely using your phone.
A GSM unit can allow authorised users to operate the gate remotely, while our video intercom options can allow you to see and speak with visitors from your smartphone before granting them access.
This can be particularly useful for deliveries, visitors, tradespeople and properties where the house is some distance from the front entrance.
-
Regular maintenance helps keep your gate and automation system operating reliably.
The gates should continue to swing freely, and hinges, gate stops and other moving components should be checked periodically. Safety beams should be kept clean and unobstructed, and the automation system should be inspected for signs of damage or unusual operation.
Timber gates also require ongoing maintenance of their protective coating to help minimise weathering, drying and movement of the timber.
If your gate begins moving differently, making unusual noises or not opening or closing correctly, we recommend having the system checked rather than continuing to operate it.
